2018 Victorian State Election Analysis - Local Government Representation

Now that the dust has settled on the 2018 Victorian State election let’s have a look at the outcome from a Local Government perspective.

The previous 58th Parliament included 22 members of the 88 seat Legislative Assembly who were former councillors, and in the 40 seat Legislative Council there were 9 former councillors.

With a record number of councillors standing at the 2018 state election, a greater municipal presence within the state legislature was a real possibility.

Figures show that 43 existing councillors contested both houses and 31 former councillors also tried their hand, a record 74 candidates in total.
